CHRISTMAS COLLECTIBLES: GOLD FLATWARE

GOLD FLATWARE ( Silverware ) is also referred to as Gold Electroplated, Gold Plated, and Gold "Washed". Actually this style of flatware is usually manufactured of quality 24K gold plated fine stainless steel, although gold plated sterling sets do exist. Stainless Gold flatware is more popular than ever and it not only makes a statement on your table of occasion, but also quite a stunning gift that would be cherished for many years to come.

COLLECTIBLE GOLD HOLIDAY FLATWARE
Shown below is the holiday Holly Berry pattern - which was offered by various retailers/manufacturers including Classic Traditions from JC Penny, Macy's All the Trimmings, Retroneu, Farberware, and others. These were available in a beautiful gold plated finish as well as stainless steel, of excellent quality and have now become  collectors items.

In addition to the popular Holly Berry Holiday flatware, there are other variations in truly beautiful and festive patterns such as the Holly Berry and Christmas Bells collection, manufacturer unknown. These too were quality made. Note the golden embossed bells underneath the holly in this lovely pattern.

WOW FACTOR!
One of the most beautiful designs we have ever seen is now very rare. This is from Macy's "All the Trimmings" holiday product line, an absolutely gorgeous 24K gold plated fine stainless collection in an elegant Christmas Tree Motif which boasts very high quality and a finely detailed design as seen here. Would coordinate nicely with many dinnerware patterns from winter white to the highly popular Spode Christmas Tree china. We like this much better than the Holly Berry winter holiday motif!

The festive bright green Christmas Tree with tiny presents, ornaments, and even a star atop is an amazing work of art! This set also seems to be continental sized. Another option is serving pieces. Retroneu ( which also manufactured other holiday tableware designs ) offered a very nice replicated set to coordinate with this beautiful Christmas Tree collection from Macy's - unfortunately it too is a rare find.
Although these products are discontinued, you may still be able to find new/unused boxed sets at Estate sales, auctions, or elsewhere on the web. Word of caution: As Christmas themed gold flatware sets are true collectors items and no longer manufactured, they do come with hefty price tags. But so worth it, because the value will only continue to escalate.

CURRENT GOLD FLATWARE BRANDS
International Silver is the parent company of popular brand names such as Wallace and Rogers, and the leader in 24K gold flatware - having a reputation for superior quality and design. Other consumer products of choice when purchasing gold flatware include Lenox and Waterford. While we hate to admit it, older products are of much greater quality than most of today's offerings. However; there are a chosen few which may be to your liking.

Check into information about the manufacturer warranty. A quality item will have at the very least a 15 year warranty or longer. The good news is that even if your item is discontinued, (depending on the manufacturer) you may still be able to obtain replacements.

STAINLESS FLATWARE WITH GOLD ACCENTS is very popular, designed with an attractive flair. Just as nice as gold plated, it is versatile and can be employed for formal or casual use - which is a definite plus. Highest rated in this category by consumers is the Royal Albert Old Country Roses collection in fine stainless steel complimented by intricate gold accenting.

SHOPPING AROUND? Quality flatware is not always the heaviest of weight. The utensils should feel pleasant in your hand - not too heavy or large, which could make using them uncomfortable. Weight is a personal choice and differs with various products. Sturdy medium weight utensils are usually the final choice for most.

THE TRUTH ABOUT TARNISHING
Gold plated stainless flatware NEVER needs polishing. Gold plated stainless flatware does not tarnish. If dark or other suspicious spots (called pitting) or a dull appearance are present on any pieces, the gold has worn away in those areas and render affected pieces useless.

CARING FOR YOUR GOLD FLATWARE
It is simple to maintain your gold flatware. Rinse and clean as soon as possible after use. Many types of foods can damage the finish if left unattended. The same holds true for "soaking" in water. A few minutes is all it should take.
Although many manufacturers state that their product is dishwasher safe, DON'T DO IT.
Washing by hand with mild soapy water - no lemon - and a soft sponge or dish towel, then drying IMMEDIATELY with a soft kitchen towel will keep that golden luster like new for many years to come. Stubborn spot ? Just a drop of vinegar, rub gently and wash immediately.

If pieces are not dried carefully they could end up with water spots. These spots will become permanent. Allow for air drying AFTER you towel dry before storing.
Store carefully. Just as with your every day flatware, scratching is inevitable when storing pieces together. Minor scratches may come about, especially if they are staked together.

GOLD FLATWARE PRODUCTS AND RECENT RATINGS:
DO read consumer reviews if possible. DO browse items manufactured by well known companies. Consider the brand name (and reputation of), as there are many products on the market to choose from.
